Knowledge Before Booking
A practical guide from the GTH PRO travel editorial library.
Work backward from your fixed commitments
Start with non-movable events such as a wedding, conference or timed experience. Next, identify your arrival airport, local transfers, check-in availability and departure obligations. Keep a single itinerary with city names, dates, addresses and ticket confirmations.
Allow for realistic transfers
Airports may be far from the center of a city. Border procedures, baggage collection and local transport can add uncertainty. A self-transfer between separate tickets is especially sensitive: a delay on the first flight may leave the second booking unprotected. Check transit and entry requirements, including whether you must collect and recheck baggage.
Avoid booking conflicts
Compare your hotel check-in time with your flight arrival. If you land early in the morning, you may need to arrange luggage storage or an extra night. Keep activities away from fragile connection windows and consider how fatigue or weather can affect a tightly packed schedule.
Keep your booking records organized
For each component, save the booking reference, provider name, local contact, cancellation deadline, payment confirmation and address. Keep important documents available offline, with an appropriate backup. Avoid sharing booking references publicly.
Practical planning sequence
- Choose the route and essential dates.
- Review Flight fare observations, then confirm tickets with the seller.
- Compare Hotels for the actual nights required.
- Add Tours & Activities after allowing arrival and travel buffers.
- Check local rules and routes in your Destination research.
A resilient plan is often more valuable than squeezing an extra stop into every day.
Important travel information
Prices, availability, entry requirements and cancellation terms can change. Confirm current details with the relevant official authority, airline or booking provider before making a purchase.
