Knowledge Before Booking
A practical guide from the GTH PRO travel editorial library.
Accessibility depends on the full journey
An attraction can have an accessible entrance while the route from a station or hotel is difficult. Plan the journey from the actual accommodation address, including curb crossings, changes in elevation, station lifts, public transport and the final few hundred metres. Do not assume an attraction symbol on a map includes accessibility verification.
Confirm the exact ticket or tour option
If booking a group activity, ask about seating, walking distance, rest stops, steps, mobility equipment and whether a companion can participate under the offered terms. Check whether the accessible entrance differs from the main queue and whether prior arrangements are necessary. The supplier and venue should confirm these details for the particular date.
Plan a flexible pace
Select one major visit and a small number of nearby alternatives. Time for rest, food and transport changes matters more than ticking off every famous sight. Keep an indoor or shorter route when conditions change.
Pre-departure checks
- Confirm lifts, toilets and transport access through official operators.
- Verify venue accessibility contact details and booking notes.
- Save the route and emergency return option offline.
- Use city research, destination guides and tour search.
Mapped attractions are community sources; accessibility fields may be incomplete or out of date.
